Albany River Rats News Release

MANCHESTER, NH - Monarchs forward Bud Holloway broke a 1-1 tie midway through the third period and the Monarch's fought-off a Albany's late surge to earn a 2-1 final Friday night at Verizon Wireless Arena.

Albany failed to cash-in on eight power play opportunities in the contest, though their lone goal did come during a delayed penalty call at 2:14 of the final frame. Forward Steven Goertzen planted himself squarely in front of Monarch's goaltender Jonathan Bernier and redirected a Jay Harrison slap shot past the net-minder for his third of the season. Holloway's game-winner came with 8:36 left in the game when the forward crashed the net and was rewarded with a loose rebound for his fifth of the year.

The game was scoreless until 8:13 of the second period, when Manchester hit on the power play. River Rats goalie Mike Murphy made an impressive stop on a blast from defenseman Vlatcheslav Voynov, but the puck caromed to an unmarked Gabe Gauthier at the doorstep for an easy chip-in and a 1-0 lead.

Bernier allowed one goal on 34 shots to earn the win as the Monarchs improved to 12-4-1-2 this season. Murphy stopped 36-of-38 in the game and took the loss as Albany fell to 9-9-0-2. The River Rats out-shot the Monarchs 38-34 in the contest and Manchester finished 1-for-5 on the power play.

Albany heads to Binghamton tomorrow for a 7:05 p.m. faceoff with the Senators at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
