Trenton Thunder News Release
(Erie, PA) - David Adams drove in three runs while Mikey O'Brien and three relievers held Erie to a single run as the Trenton Thunder earned 5-1 victory over the SeaWolves on Thursday night to win the three-game series. The Thunder (34-24) have won nine of their last 11 to move a season-best ten games above the .500 mark.
Trenton finished the season series against Erie with wins in nine of the 12 contests including a 5-1 mark at Jerry Uht Park. Adams hit sacrifice flies in the third and fifth innings, then picked up an RBI groundout in the seventh to conclude the scoring.
O'Brien (3-1) worked five innings and allowed six hits and one run, which scored on Niuman Romero's two-out triple in the fifth. Lee Hyde, Preston Claiborne and Ryan Flannery combined to hold the SeaWolves scoreless on three hits over the final four innings.
Erie starter Jared Wesson (4-3) allowed all five Trenton runs in his six plus innings of work. Addison Maruszak ripped an RBI triple in the fourth to score Melky Mesa who had led off the inning with a double, making the score 2-0 Thunder. Jose Pirela added a sac fly in the seventh before Adams third RBI of the night.
The Thunder collected only five hits with no player getting more than one. Erie had nine hits, including a pair from Romero and Jordan Lennerton.
Trenton next returns home for a three-game series against the Binghamton Mets. Game one will be Friday night at 7:05 pm, with right-hander Adam Miller (0-0) expected to start for Trenton against righty Gonzalez Germen.
