Thunder Pitching Rolls over 'Wolves

The SeaWolves could not combat a strong Trenton pitching performance as they dropped the rubber game of the series to the Thunder 5-1 on Thursday night at Jerry Uht Park.

Trenton struck first in the top of the third against Erie starter Jared Wesson. Damon Sublett led off with a single. Sublett moved to second on a walk and to third on a passed ball. David Adams sent a sacrifice fly into right, plating Sublett for a 1-0 lead.

In the fourth, Melky Mesa led off with a double and he came home to score on a two-out Addison Maruszak triple for a 2-0 Thunder edge.

Trenton added a third run in the fifth. Jose Pirela doubled with one out and stole third. He scored on an Adams sacrifice fly for a 3-0 Trenton lead.

Erie's lone run came in the bottom of the fifth off of Trenton starter Mikey O'Brien. With one out, Corey Jones walked and stole second. Niuman Romero tripled home Jones making it 3-1.

Trenton added two in the seventh. Maruszak, Subett and Abraham Almonte each drew walks loading the bases. Pirela lifted a sacrifice fly to right, plating Maruszak making it 4-1. Adams finished the scoring for the night by grounding home Sublett for a 5-1 Trenton lead.

Wesson (4-3) took the loss allowing five runs, four earned, on five hits with four walks and two strikeouts.

The SeaWolves begin a three-game series against the New Britain Rock Cats (Minnesota Twins) at Jerry Uht Park on Friday night.7:05 First Pitch. RHP James Avery (5-5, 3.57 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against LHP Aaron Thompson (0-1, 6.75 ERA).
