New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, NH - Mike McDade homered, doubled, and drove in a pair of runs on Thursday night, helping the Fisher Cats (22-36) earn a split of a suspended-game doubleheader with the Richmond Flying Squirrels (28-32). McDade's heroics lifted the Fisher Cats to a 3-0 win in the suspended game, which started on Wednesday and evened the overall set at one win each. Richmond rebounded to take the finale with a 6-3 triumph in nightcap, taking two of three in the series.
The suspended game began in the fourth inning after rain interrupted play on Wednesday night in a scoreless tie. McDade broke the tie with his tenth home run in the bottom of the fourth, a two-out blast off reliever Daryl Maday (L; 2-5). Two innings later, again with two outs, McDade doubled home Brian Bocock to push the lead to 2-0.
A Brian Jeroloman two-out single plated one more run in the seventh to make a winner out of reliever Ronald Uviedo (W; 3-2). The righty started the fourth and pitched three scoreless innings, matching the effort of starter Brett Cecil before the rains came on Wednesday. Sam Dyson tossed a pair of scoreless frames before Evan Englebrook earned his first save of the year with a scoreless ninth.
In the seven-inning nightcap, the Fisher Cats trailed 6-0 before putting up a spirited rally in the final inning. The first two men reached against starter Chris Heston (W; 6-2), setting up Sean Ochinko for a two-run double to left center field. After a groundout, Mark Sobolewski singled home Ochinko to cut the deficit to 6-3. The rally - and the series - ended with the potential tying run in the on-deck circle.
Deck McGuire took the loss for New Hampshire, falling to 2-7 on the season. He allowed three run-scoring hits in the third before a three-run homer made it 6-0 in Richmond's favor in the fourth. McGuire complete five full innings, allowing six runs on 6 hits.
Ochinko went 2-3 in game two of the doubleheader to extend his hitting streak to a season-high 12 games.
The Fisher Cats now host the Bowie Baysox (Baltimore Orioles) for a three-game series beginning on Friday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. Friday's game features Atlas Fireworks. It is also AutoFair Make the Grade Night where a student from a Manchester high school will drive away with a new car, courtesy of AutoFair. For tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com.
Radio coverage of the series opener with the Baysox begins at 6:45 PM with Tom Gauthier and Charlie Sherman. RHP Yohan Pino (4-1, 3.40) takes the ball against Bowie LHP Jake Pettit (3-0, 3.99).
