Brockton Rox News Release

Brockton, MA (July 28, 2008) - The Brockton Rox split a double-header with the Nashua Pride on Monday night at Holman Stadium, taking a offensively charged first game 7-6, and falling in the second game 9-3. Rox LF Dennis Abreu had hits in each of the games and broke the Can-Am League record by extending his hitting streak to 28 games.

Abreu was a big part of the Rox 7-6 win in game one and he hit a two-run home run to give Brockton a 5-3 lead in the fifth inning. He then scored the eventual game-winning run in the top of the seventh inning after hammering a double off the centerfield wall to start the frame. Five different starters had RBIs for the Rox in the first game. RHP Jerry Dunn recorded his 16th save of the season; placing him second in the Rox all-time record books for career saves.

In the second game, the Nashua offense picked up the scoring trend from the first game and knocked around Rox RHP Greg Bunn early. The Pride scored all nine of its runs in the first four innings to chase Bunn. Meanwhile, Nashua starter RHP Lance Stevens was terrific, sending down ten in-a-row at one point en route to his fifth win of the season.

Abreu's record-breaking hit came in his first at-bat in the second game. After 2B Melvin Falu walked with one out, Abreu drilled the first pitch he saw from Stevens into left field for a base hit.

The Rox and Pride will continue the series on Tuesday night at Holman Stadium at 7:05 PM. LHP Rolando Viera (2-6, 3.67 ERA) will start for the Rox against RHP Isaac Burkett (1-2, 3.20 ERA) for Nashua.
