New Jersey Jackals News Release

Quebec City, QC - The New Jersey Jackals (4-10) dropped their sixth straight game as they were defeated 3-2 by the Quebec Capitales (7-6), who ended their own three-game skid, on Monday night. The game's first pitch was delayed over an hour and a half due to rain. The Jackals jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning against Quebec starter Kevin Beavers. SS Casey Gordon led off with a single and advanced to second when 1B Pat Scalabrini dropped an attempted pickoff with Gordon in motion. Later in the inning with two outs and Gordon at second, Jackals 1B Juan Tejeda fisted a ball over the head of Quebec 2B Jean-Michel Rochon-Salvas and into shallow right center which enabled Gordon to score.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Capitales countered with two runs of their own to take a 2-1 lead. Quebec loaded the bases against Jackals southpaw Isaac Pavlik when RF Alex Nunez reached on a fielders choice before Pavlik hit the next two batters. With the bases full, C Patrick D'Aoust singled home Nunez to tie the game before a fielders choice off the bat of SS Jose Contreras gave Quebec a one-run advantage.

In the bottom of the seventh, a leadoff walk by D'Aoust chased Pavlik from the game. With reliever Justin Barnes in, 3B Patrick Deschenes laced a two-out RBI double off the wall in right center to extend the Quebec lead to 3-1. However, the Jackals would claw back in the top of the eighth inning when 2B Bryant Nelson led off with a walk before scoring from third two batters later when 3B Chris Kelly hit into a double play to cut the deficit to 3-2. That was as close as New Jersey would get as Quebec's Ivan Blanco shut down the Jackals in the top of the ninth to earn his first save of the season. The win went to Beavers (4-3) who allowed one unearned run on five hits in six innings while striking out two batters and walking one. Pavlik (5-4) took the loss after allowing three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and a walk in six innings.

The Jackals continue their four-game series against Les Capitales de Quebec on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. when New Jersey left-hander Isaac Pavlik takes the hill against Capitales righty Orlando Trias. You can catch every pitch via live webcast at www.jackals.com with the broadcast beginning five minutes prior to first pitch.
