
Bergeron, Kelly Can-Am League Players Of The Week

DURHAM, NC - The official statistician of the Can-Am League, PA-Sportsticker, has selected Ottawa Rapidz INF Jabe Bergeron and Brockton Rox RHP John Kelly as the Teamline Direct Batter and Pitcher of the Week.
Bergeron hit .609 with two home runs and eight RBI in six games this past week for Ottawa. He collected 14 hits, four of which were doubles, scored eight runs and slugged 1.043. Bergeron on the year is batting .387 with eight home runs, 42 RBI, 84 hits and 19 doubles. The Keene, NH native is first in the Can-Am in batting average and on-base percentage (.454), second in hits and slugging percentage (.594) and third in runs scored (49). This is the second straight week the Rapidz INF has won the Batter of the Week award.
The 26-year-old was a non-drafted signee of the New York Mets in June of 2004. He spent a little over a season in the Mets system before joining Elmira of the Can-Am League in 2005. Bergeron spent the 2006 season with Nashua and Worcester and in 2007 with Sussex.
This is the second time Kelly has won the Pitcher of the Week award in 2008. In the 5-2 victory over the Nashua Pride this past Wednesday, Kelly went eight strong innings giving up two runs, one earned, on five hits with two walks and 11 strikeouts. He is currently 5-4 on the season with a 2.25 ERA in 80 innings pitched. The 35-year-old is second in the league in strikeouts (83) and fourth in earned run average.
Kelly was drafted in 11th round by the New York Mets in June of 1994. He pitched two plus seasons in the Mets organization along with time in the Pittsburgh Pirates and Seattle Mariners farm systems. The resident of Leominster, MA has played with independent clubs including Minot, Waterbury, North Shore and New Jersey and in the Mexican League with Saltillo and Yucatan.
