Pride split two with Rox

(NASHUA, N.H. - July 28th, 2008) The Nashua Pride were able to salvaged a split with the Brockton Rox, pounding out nine runs in game two and taking down the Rox 9-3 after being downed by the visitors in their last at bat during game one, 7-6 in the double-header at Historic Holman stadium played in front of a crowd of 1,206 Monday night.

Pride starter Lance Stevens (5-4) regained his form and picked up the win, pitching six innings, giving up two runs on four hits, striking out three and walking two. Nashua hitters recording multiple hits in the game were Bryan Duplissie (3-for-4, two runs scored), Mike Torres (2-for-2, two runs scored, two RBI), Ismael Castro (2-for-4, two runs scored, two RBI) and Ervin Alcantara (2-for-3, HR, four RBI).

Greg Bunn (2-3) took the loss for the Rox, pitching three and two thirds innings, giving up eight earned runs on nine hits, while walking and striking out three. DH Jason Colson and 2B Melvin Falu knocked in the three runs for Brockton in the game.

In game one, Brockton scuffed three run leads in the 4th and 6th innings, but Rox left fielder Dennis Abreu led off the Top of the 7th with a double and scored the eventual winning run on designated hitter Jason Colson's single to pull out the victory 7-6. Abreu finished the game 2-for-3, adding a two run home run. Melvin Falu also gathered multiple hits for Brockton, ending the game 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.

Rox starting pitcher John Kelly (5-4) did not factor in the decision, throwing four and one-third innings, allowing four runs on four hits, striking out and walking two. James Baker (3-3) recorded the win for the visitors, although he gave up two runs in just two-thirds of an inning. Jerry Dunn came in to close the door in the ninth inning for his league leading 16th save of the season.

For the Pride, first baseman Bryan Duplissie (1-for-3) and second baseman Ismael Castro (1-for-3) each tied the game with three run home runs. Sandy Almonte had the only multi-hit game for the home team, finishing 2-for-3 with a double. Nashua starting pitcher Hideki Nagasaka (6-3) also did not factor in the decision, dealing four and one-third innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on eight hits, walking three and striking out one. Brett Palanski took the loss going an inning and a third, yielding two runs on three hits.

Nashua and Brockton will meet again tomorrow night, July 29th, at 7:05 pm for game three of their five game series at Historic Holman Stadium. RHP Issac Burkett (1-2, 3.20 ERA) will take the mound for the Pride, the Rox will counter with LHP Rolando Viera (2-6, 3.67 ERA).
