Atlantic City Surf News Release

Atlantic City, N.J. - RF Josh Burrus went 3-for-4 with a home run and a double, but it wasn't enough as the Atlantic City Surf fell to the Ottawa Rapidz, 8-3, in a Can-Am League contest at Bernie Robbins Stadium on Monday evening. The loss put an end to Atlantic City's season-high seven-game winning streak.

After a scoreless first three innings, Ottawa (6-8) got on the board in the fourth with back-to-back RBI singles from RF Pete Pirman and DH Nate Hall. In the fifth, with one out, 3B Jake Daubert drove in SS Juan Infante with an RBI double to increase the Rapidz' lead to 3-0. Infante was then doubled home by Can-Am League Player of the Week 1B Jabe Bergeron, who later scored on a wild pitch, making it a 5-0 game.

Atlantic City (10-4) responded with a pair of runs in the fifth. Burrus led off the inning with a solo blast to left field, his team-leading ninth of the season. 1B Eddie Kim then singled, and scored on 3B Gil Zayas' RBI double.

The Rapidz came back with single runs in each of the final three frames to ensure the victory. Daubert doubled home Infante in the seventh, CF Jared Lemieux came home on a throwing error by Surf C William Plaza in the eighth, and in the ninth, LF Jerome Milons tacked on an RBI single. The Surf scored a run in the eighth on Kim's RBI single, but could come no closer.

For the Surf, Burrus and Kim were the only players with more than one hit. Burrus' hot streak continues, as he entered the game hitting .359 with three home runs and nine RBI in his last ten games. Six players had multiple-hit evenings for the Rapidz. C Keith Geiger went 3-for-5 with a run scored, while Infante was 3-for-5 with two doubles.

Adam Hawes (4-7) earned the victory for Ottawa, allowing two runs on six hits in six and two-thirds innings of work, striking out seven. For the Surf, J.C. Huguet (7-5) gave up six runs in six and one-third, and was saddled with the loss, despite striking out eight.

The Rapidz increased their winning streak to a season-high four games with the victory.

The two teams meet again on Tuesday evening, with righthander Austin Redwine (0-0) making his first start of the season in place of Adam Cox, who is sidelined with an injury to his oblique muscle. Tanner Watson (1-4) is on the mound for Ottawa.
