Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Tonight's Game
The Aberdeen IronBirds look for the series sweep tonight against the Hudson Valley Renegades (Class-A Short-Season affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays). The IronBirds won their season-high fourth straight game last night, defeating the Renegades 4-1. Matt Hobgood had his best start in an Aberdeen uniform, surrendering one run on three hits in four innings of work. Ryan Berry, Zach Petersime, and Kyle Simon pitched the final five innings scoreless to close out the victory. Martin Serrata had three hits and two RBI in the win. Aberdeen has right-hander Mike Wright on the hill tonight. Wright was the third-round pick of the Baltimore Orioles in this year's draft. He'll go up against left-hander Jacob Partridge.
Error-Free Baseball
The IronBirds have played nearly flawless defense during this four-game winning streak. Aberdeen has not made an error during the stretch. The four-game errorless streak is a season-long for the IronBirds. Aberdeen has made 54 errors in 49 games this season.
Strong Pitching Performances
During the current four-game winning streak, the IronBirds have allowed just five runs. Aberdeen has allowed one run or less in three of the four victories. After a tough start to the month of August, the IronBirds' team ERA is now 4.00.
Serrata is Heating Up
Serrata has gotten off to a great start to the month of August. In five games played, Serrata has three multi-hit efforts. He's batting .467 with three doubles, a triple, five RBI and two runs scored in August. He's raised his batting average 43 points.
Simon Picks Up First Save
Simon pitched a scoreless ninth inning in last night's win to pick up his first professional save. Simon has not allowed a run in seven innings of work out of the Aberdeen bullpen. During that time he's surrendered just two hits. So far, Simon has gotten five ground ball outs for every fly ball out.
Up Next: State College
Following tonight's ball game, the IronBirds will head to State College, PA for three games against the Spikes. State College and Aberdeen currently have the worst two records in the New York-Penn League.
