
Five Lake Monsters Picked for 2011 NY-Penn League All-Star Game

BURLINGTON, VT --- Five Vermont Lake Monster players were named to play in the 2011 New York-Penn League All-Star Game next Tuesday, August 16th at LeLecheur Park in Lowell, Massachusetts, the New York-Penn League announced today. The five Vermont players are catcher Nick Rickles, infielders Chih-Fang Pan and Sean Jamieson, along with relief pitchers Tanner Peters and Jeff Urlaub.
Rickles, a 14th-round pick in the 2011 draft out of Stetson University, has hit .348 (24-for-69) with six doubles, two triples and 13 RBI over 21 games since joining the Lake Monsters on July 3rd. He has hit safely in 18 of his 20 games started, including a pair of six-game hitting streaks.ÃÂ
Pan, a 2010 free-agent signee out of Taiwan, is hitting .327 (37-for-113) with 15 runs and 16 RBI in 28 games for Vermont. He has hit safely in 22 of his 27 games started overall, including 16 of his last 19 (28-for-80, .350). Pan currently has a six-game hitting streak, his third six-game hit streak of the season.
A 17th-round selection in 2011 out of Canisius College, Jamieson is hitting .257 (43-for-167) with six doubles and 12 RBI. He is tied for the league-lead with 18 steals and is fourth in the New York-Penn League with 28 walks. The shortstop has also made just six errors and has a .966 field percentage in 43 games.
Peters, a 2011 16th-round pick out of UNLV, is tied for second in the NY-Penn League with nine saves. The right-hander began the season with 16 2/3 straight scoreless innings, allowing just six hits with four walks and 19 strikeouts. He is currently 0-1 with a 1.45 ERA and 22 strikeouts over 18 2/3 innings in 14 appearances.
A 30th-round pick in 2010 out of Grand Canyon University, Urlaub is 1-0 with four saves and a 1.75 ERA in 16 outings for the Lake Monsters. He has also has a 13-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio with 39 strikeouts and just 3 walks in 25 2/3 innings. The left-hander has not allowed a run over eight innings in his last five appearances.
The NY-Penn League All-Star game pits players from the seven American League affiliates against the seven National League affiliates. Vermont, which will be part of the AL team for the first time as an affiliate of the Oakland A's, has more representives in the All-Star game than any other American League affiliate.
