Portland Winterhawks News Release
The Portland Winterhawks will open the 2015-16 season in Victoria on Friday, September 25 when they meet the Royals in the first of 72 regular season contests. The Winterhawks' home opener will take place on Saturday, October 3 when the Hawks host the Everett Silvertips at 7 p.m. in the Moda Center.
The team will play the majority of its home games on weekends with 29 of the 36 games scheduled for a Friday, Saturday or Sunday (11 Friday home games, nine on Saturdays and nine on Sundays). A complete schedule is attached to the email.
The venues for all games will be finalized later this summer after the Portland Trail Blazers' schedule is released.
Portland's biggest promotional night, the Les Schwab Teddy Bear Toss, will take place on Saturday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. In addition, the team will host Portland's biggest New Year's Eve party with the Dec. 31 game against the Seattle Thunderbirds at the Moda Center at 8 p.m. Fans can stay to skate on the ice with players after the game. A full promotional calendar will be released closer to the season.
Among the highlights of the 2015-16 schedule:
- The Hawks will host the Kelowna Rockets in a rematch of last year's Western Conference Final on Friday, Nov. 6 and 7
- The longest homestand of the season will take place in October when the team plays five straight games at home from October 3 - 16
- The longest road trip of the season will be the team's six-game trek through the Central Division from February 19 - 27
- The Nov. 28 Daylight Classic will be the first of three daylight games this season. There will be two other 3 p.m. matinees on holidays: on January 18 (Martin Luther King Jr. Day) against Vancouver and then again on February 15 (Presidents' Day) against Victoria
