Tryout Camps Set for March

December 23, 2002 - The Northern League of Professional Baseball will hold two open tryout camps in March for released minor league players and outstanding former college players. The first camp will be Monday, March 3, in Chandler, Ariz., at SRC Baseball Field. The site address is 4500 South Basha Road, Chandler, AZ, 85248. Pair Sold to Major League Clubs

December 11, 2002 - The contracts of St. Paul left-handed pitcher Jake Whitney and Sioux Falls right-handed pitcher Juan Renteria were sold to major league clubs Tuesday. Whitney, 26, was acquired after two seasons with the Saints. He was named a Northern League post-season all-star after a 7-6 season and 2.75 earned run average with 20 walks and 81 strikeouts in 108 innings in 2001. Marshall Hired to Run Baseball Ops

December 4, 2002 - The Northern League hired Mike Marshall as director of baseball operations Wednesday, commissioner Mike Stone announced. Marshall and his family are relocating to the new league office in Fort Worth, Texas, effective immediately. MarshallÂ’s duties will include processing daily transactions and salary cap data, scheduling and working with umpire supervisor Butch Fisher.
