Brampton Beast News Release

ESTERO, FLORIDA - Brampton Beast starting goaltender Jordan Ruby stonewalled a potent Florida Everblades offense through three periods of play and into the extra frame, kicking out numerous odd-man rushes and breakaways to keep his team in the game, but the Everblades lit the lamp at 1:12 of overtime to steal a 2-1 overtime victory over the Beast on Saturday night at Germain Arena.

For the second straight night, Ruby started the game strong in the first period and helped his team to a scoreless opening frame, making six saves in a defensive-minded battle.

The Everblades opened the scoring just 20 seconds into the second period as Rob Florentino picked up his second of the season, with assists going to Ryan Martindale and Matt Willows.

The score remained 1-0 until the 7:12 mark of the second period. The Beast enjoyed time on a 5-on-3 and Jeff Brown pounced on a loose puck in the slot and sent a blind shot on goal. The puck appeared to change direction in front of Everblades starter Anthony Peters and ended up in the back of the net. Brown was given credit for his tenth goal of the season, with Tim Bozon and Reggie Traccitto drawing the assists.

In the third period, both teams had their fair share of chances, but both goaltenders were up to the task. Both Ruby and Peters made highlight reel saves in the final frame to force the game into overtime.

At 1:12 of the extra period, Ruby made two big saves during a mad scramble in front of the net but Kevin Lynch squeezed the third rebound beyond the outstretched pad of Ruby for the game-winner.

Notes: The Beast finished the game 1-for-5 on the power play and were a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill. With the assist on Brown's goal, Tim Bozon now has points in three straight games since being reassigned from the St. John's IceCaps. Molson Three Stars: 3) Jordan Ruby 2) Kevin Lynch 1) Anthony Peters

The Beast now head to Elmira to face the Jackals on Monday, January 18. The Beast return home on January 31 as they host the Wheeling Nailers. Single game tickets are now available, starting at $16.25.
