Colorado Eagles News Release
(LOVELAND, CO) -- The Colorado Eagles handed the Missouri Mavericks just their fourth regulation loss of the season Saturday night at the Budweiser Events Center, as forwards Jesse Mychan and Ludwig Karlsson both netted two goals apiece to push the Eagles to a 5-3 win.
The Mavericks got off to an early start, scoring in the first minute of the game for the second night in a row, as forward Andrew Courtney found an opening in the low slot just 46 seconds into the opening period to give his team a 1-0 lead.
At the 11:18 mark Karlsson put the Eagles on the board with a wrister from the right-hand circle on the rush. The two teams would head into intermission tied at 1-1.
Colorado took the lead in the second period when Mychan scored his 15th goal of the season over the shoulder of Missouri goaltender Stephon Williams, giving Colorado a 2-1 advantage at the 5:00 mark.
Less than five minutes later, the Mavericks would tie it up with a shorthanded goal, as Colorado goaltender Clarke Saunders misplayed a puck in the corner, giving forward David De Kastrozza an open opportunity and making it a 2-2 game after forty minutes.
Just 54 seconds into the third period, forward Trent Daavettila set up Mychan in front of the net, as Mychan stuffed home a shot into the net to give the Eagles a 3-2 lead. Mychan's goal was his team-leading 16th of the season.
Missouri forward Jesse Root tied it up for the Mavericks, scoring at the 7:14 mark of third period on the powerplay, but Karlsson would answer for the Eagles as he netted his second goal of the night to put Colorado back on top just 57 seconds later.
After a series of tussles spilled out across the ice, Saunders and Williams squared-off at center ice in the second goalie fight of the season at the Budweiser Events Center. It would also bring Eric Levine into the game to finish the contest for Colorado, while Josh Robinson took over in net for Missouri.
The Mavericks pulled Robinson in favor of an extra skater, but Eagles defenseman Collin Bowman would make them pay, netting an empty net goal to give the Eagles a 5-3 cushion and the win.
The Eagles head to Rapid City on Friday, January 22nd to take on the Rush at 7:05 PM MST.
Tickets for groups of 15 or more start at just $14 per seat and can be purchased by calling the Eagles ticket office at 970-686-SHOT (7468).
