Alaska Aces News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA - After surrendering a 3-0 first period lead, Felix-Antoine Poulin's goal at 2:55 of overtime gave the Alaska Aces a 5-4 victory over the homestanding South Carolina Stingrays Saturday night at the North Charleston Coliseum.
Aces winger Tommaso Traversa had a hat trick and an assist, and Tony Deluca had three assists for Alaska, who picked up West Division points for the 6th consecutive game.
The Aces' Tim Coffman quickly quieted the crowd with his wrist shot goal at 12 seconds of the first period, his 12th goal of the season. Traversa bagged his first goal of the game at 7:08, then struck for another at 11:37 to give Alaska a 3-0 lead...Traversa's 10th and 11th goals of the season.
South Carolina came roaring back in the second. Jared Staal scored on a 2 on 1 rush off a turnover at :36 seconds, Jordan Ciccarello shot a puck off Aces goaltender Troy Redmann's stick into the net at 2:27, and David Pacan snapped home a shot at 14:19 to erase the deficit and tie the game at 3 at the end of two periods.
In the third, Stephan Vigier caught Redmann out of the net and out of position for a goal for South Carolina's first lead of the game at 4-3. That lead lasted just 1 minute and 10 seconds before Traversa banged in Ben Lake's centering pass for his hat trick and 12th goal of the season, tying the game at 4.
In the overtime period, Traversa was in on the scoring again, sliding a beautiful centering pass out of the left corner to the right circle where Poulin launched a one-timer that beat Stingray's goaltender Vitek Vanacek. The goal, Poulin's 3rd of the season, gave the Aces their first overtime win this season, in Alaska's third overtime game of the road trip.
The Stingrays outshot Alaska 38-22. Redmann had 34 saves for the win, Vanacek 17 in the loss.
The Aces and Stingrays complete the two-game series Sunday at 3:05pm EST, 11:05am AST.
The Aces return home to face the Idaho Steelheads in a 3 game series starting Friday, January 22. For tickets, stop by the Aces ticket office at 15th and Gambell Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm, or go online at www.alaskaaces.com.
