Evansville IceMen News Release

EVANSVILLE, IN - 8,229 fans packed the Ford Center Saturday for the sixth-annual Star Wars Night in Evansville, but the Quad City Mallards scored a late third period goal to edge the IceMen 2-1 in a hard-fought game.

Evansville outshot Quad City 14-8 in the opening period, but the Mallards converted on their lone power play. Miles Koules took the shot from the left face-off dot and Ryan Tesink deflected the shot past IceMen goaltender Cody Reichard. Quad City goalie Brody Hoffman was busy in the frame and stopped all 14 Evansville shots.

The IceMen ended a streak of 43 power plays without a goal, when they score on their third man-advantage of the game. Chris Rumble's shot from the point was tipped by Danny Hobbs past Hoffman at 6:42 of the second period. The fans were also treated to two fights in the middle frame, when Michael Trebish fought Alex Gudbranson, and Spencer Humphries dropped the gloves with Anthony Collins.

Hoffman stymied several grade-A scoring chances throughout the night and kept the IceMen off the board in the third period on his way to a 38-save win. Kevin Henderson scooped up a loose puck Evansville blocked a shot from the point, and Henderson lifted the rebound over Reichard with 2:51 left to break the 1-1 tie. The Mallards hung on to win their third game at the Ford Center this season. Reichard made 29 saves in the loss.
