New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, N.H. - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays Double-A) were held to fewer than three runs for the first time all season in a 7-1 loss to the Portland Sea Dogs (Red Sox Double-A) on Wednesday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
Sea Dogs starter Mike Shawaryn (W, 2-3) allowed just three hits over seven shutout innings with a walk and eight strikeouts. Bo Bichette went 1-for-4 with a single in the first inning, while Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went 1-for-4 with a double in the sixth.
Portland held a 2-0 lead for most of the game, thanks to a solo home run from Josh Ockimey and an RBI double by Austin Rye in the second inning.
Four double plays from New Hampshire's defense kept the game close, until the Sea Dogs erupted for five runs in the top of the ninth inning, highlighted by Cole Sturgeon's three-run homer.
Entering the ninth inning behind 7-0, the Fisher Cats got a lead off double from Jonathan Davis, who scored on a dropped pop up at second base.
With the loss, the Fisher Cats (18-11) fall out of first place for the first time in 2018.
The team hits the road for a four-game series with the Harrisburg Senators (Washington Nationals) and a three-game set against the Hartford Yard Goats (Colorado Rockies) before returning home on Thursday, May 17 for a four-game series against Tim Tebow and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (New York Mets).
