Vipers Fall in Overtime to Los Angeles 130-123

HIDALGO, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (27-23) fell 130-123 to the Los Angeles D-Fenders (17-33) tonight at State Farm Arena. Tonight's game concludes RGV's 2014-15 campaign.

Tony Bishop led the Vipers with 31 points and 12 rebounds. Glen Rice, Jr. added 24 points and 11 rebounds. Jaron Johnson and Jarvis Threatt each added 21 points. Threatt also added 11 assists. Akil Mitchell contributed defensively with six points and 12 rebounds.

Vander Blue led the D-Fenders with 23 points, followed by Jamaal Franklin with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Eloy Vargas scored 20 points. Will Sheehey added 19 points, and Jarvis Varnado notched 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Los Angeles led throughout the most of the first half. RGV's only lead was 6-4 at the 9:19 mark in the first quarter. At the conclusion of the first quarter, the D-Fenders led 39-27. RGV scored 39 points in the second quarter to cut their deficit to 70-66 at the half.

The Vipers were able to steal the lead in the third quarter. They outscored Los Angeles 30-19 to hold a 96-89 advantage heading into the final quarter of regulation.

Rice scored 11 of his 24 total points in the fourth quarter to lead the Vipers. RGV maintained control until Sheeyey connected on a three-pointer to steal the 119-118 lead with 1:24 on the clock. Ingram followed with two shots at the free throw line to put the D-Fenders up 121-118. However, Rice sent the game to overtime with a three-pointer that tied the game at 121. RGV never held the lead in overtime. The D-Fenders finished the game on top 130-123.
