Utah Grizzlies News Release

Anchorage, Alaska - The Utah Grizzlies (24-20-5-3) defeated the Alaska Aces (24-21-3-2) 3-2 Saturday night at Sullivan Arena.

"It's huge, last night was a big dagger for us, having three leads and losing in overtime," said Aubin. "It was a team effort tonight and the guys did really well."

Utah took a 1-0 lead with 4:32 left in the first period as Mathieu Aubin scored his 19th of the year and his first of the game on the power-play.

"It was good work by the power-play moving the puck and Michael Pelech just slid me the puck right in front and I tapped it in," said Aubin. Ryan Hayes also picked up an assist.

Utah made it 2-0 as Pelech and Aubin forced another turnover and Aubin scored his second of the night as he ripped one home on top of the crease with 8:20 left in the second period. Mike Folkes picked up an assist on the play.

Alaska scored a power-play goal late in the second period and a shorthanded goal early in the third to tie the contest.

The Grizzlies came back with a Ryan Hayes goal 2:40 later at 4:56 of the third period to take a 3-2 lead as T.J. Syner fed him to start a 3-on-2 on his 16th goal of the year. Patrick Wellar also added an assist on the goal.

Igor Bobkov stopped 35 of 37 shots, including 16 in the second period, to improve to 9-6-2-0. The Grizzlies killed 1:16 of five-on-three power-play time early in the second period to keep the game 1-0 and killed another late penalty in the second to keep it 2-1 after Alaska had just scored on a power-play goal.
