Dragons President Robert Murphy Selected as Everest Award Winner

Dayton, Ohio - Dayton Dragons President Robert Murphy has been selected as a winner of the 2nd Annual Everest Award, which will be presented by the West Chester - Liberty Chamber Alliance on Thursday, July 18th at the Cincinnati Marriott North in West Chester.

The West Chester - Liberty Chamber Alliance hands out the Everest Award to leaders that have created a positive impact on business, the community, or quality of life within the I-75 Growth Corridor.

About Robert Murphy:

Robert Murphy has been with Mandalay Baseball Properties since 1994, when he began his sports career with the Las Vegas (then) Stars Triple-A franchise and the Las Vegas Thunder Hockey Team (International Hockey League). During his 19 years of service to the sport of baseball, he has worked passionately and diligently for the ownership group, his colleagues, and his staff.

He has been the Dragons team president since the club's inception. Under Murphy's guidance, the Dragons have sold out all 925 home games in the franchise's 14-year history, a record for professional sports in North America. In 2012 the Dragons were the first minor league team from any sport to be named a finalist for the "Professional Sports Team of the Year Award" given out by industry publication the Street & Smith's SportsBusiness Journal.

Murphy involves himself in all facets of the Dragons organization, including ticketing, sponsorships, media, entertainment, human resources, financial management, operations, and corporate culture. In 2012, Murphy led the Dragons to Minor League Baseball's John H. Johnson President's Award, the top honor given by Minor League Baseball out of 160 teams operating under the Major League umbrella. He has also twice been recognized as the Midwest League Executive of the Year and was the 2005 Sporting News "Executive of the Year."

Murphy is married and lives in Beavercreek, Ohio with his wife, Kathy. They have three children, Kaitlin, Michael, and Colleen. Murphy received his undergraduate degree in communications and media arts from Buffalo State College. His MBA was earned from State University of New York at Buffalo.

About the Everest Award:

For a second-consecutive year, the Everest Award will be presented to leaders in the I-75 Growth Corridor. According to the West Chester - Liberty Chamber Alliance, the I-75 Growth Corridor covers I-275 to I-675 and is the epicenter of regional growth between Dayton and Cincinnati. The Everest Award spotlights this growth corridor and pays homage to the leaders and legends that are shaping it.
