Dayton Dragons News Release
DAYTON, OHIO-The Cincinnati Reds official website, reds.com, is reporting today that pitcher Johnny Cueto will start for the Dayton Dragons on Thursday, May 9th on an injury rehabilitation assignment. The Dragons host the Lansing Lugnuts at 7:05 p.m. at Fifth Third Field. Lawn tickets are available for the game for $7.00. Call (937) 228-2287 or purchase online at daytondragons.com.
Cueto is on the Reds 15-day disabled list with a strained right lat muscle. He has not pitched since April 13.
Cueto pitched for the Dragons in 2006, earning the Reds Minor League Pitcher of the Year honor that season. He went 8-1 with a 2.59 earned run average in Dayton and was the starting pitcher for the East Division in the Midwest League All-Star Game that season. He made his big league debut with the Reds in 2008. In 2012, Cueto went 19-9 with a 2.78 ERA for the Reds, just missing the honor of becoming the Reds first 20-game winner since 1988. He finished fourth in the National League's Cy Young Award voting and was the Reds opening game starter in the National League Divisional Series. Cueto is 61-46 as a Major League pitcher.
Thursday's Dragons game will be televised on WHIO Digital Channel 7.2 and Time Warner Cable channels 23 and 372.
