DAYTON, OH - Early offense and a stellar outing from Robert Stephenson led the Dayton Dragons (11-20) to an 11-4 win over the Lansing Lugnuts (9-20) on Wednesday night at Fifth Third Field.

With a big lead early in the game, Stephenson (Win, 2-3) took over, throwing six scoreless innings while allowing just three hits. He struck out nine Lugnuts batters and did not issue a single walk.

Dayton went to work early against Lugnuts starter Daniel Norris (Loss, 0-3), chasing him from the game after just 1.1 innings pitched.

A three-run homer by Nick O'Shea in the first inning paved the way for a five-run second frame by Dayton, with run-scoring hits by Robert Ramirez, Jeff Gelalich and O'Shea as the Dragons led 8-0 after two innings.

In total, Norris allowed eight runs - six of them earned - on seven hits. He walked one and struck out one.

The Lugs offense could not muster much against Stephenson, but managed to get going late in the game, plating four runs off Dragons' reliever Tony Amezcua, including a two-run home run by Carlos Ramirez.

Game two of the three-game series is set for a 7:00 p.m. first pitch on Thursday night. The Lugnuts will send right-hander Javier Avendaño (2-1, 3.86) to the mound. He will oppose Cincinnati Reds right-hander Johnny Cueto, making a rehab start with the Dragons.
