Burlington Bees News Release
Aaron Newcomb delivered six scoreless innings, while Wendell Soto belted a huge three-run double to give the Burlington Bees a 4-0 win over the Kane County Cougars on Wednesday night at Community Field.
The pitching continues to be the story for the Bees (11-16), who entered Wednesday night with the fourth best earned-run average in the Midwest League. With the way the Bees have been throwing the ball, it's very possible the Bees could climb even higher, despite facing the Cougars (14-15) who are the best offensive team in the league.
Newcomb took the mound in search of his first win in a Bees uniform and he did everything in his power to get it, giving up just three hits in six scoreless innings. He struck out two, while walking two in a fantastic outing. Facing a team that entered the day hitting .283, Newcomb was getting out after out on a warm, cloudy evening.
The Bees offense came in the fourth, when four runs came across against Pierce Johnson. Kyle Johnson reached on a bunt single and stole his 17th base of the year. Sherman Johnson reached on an infield single to put two men on for Wade Hinkle. Hinkle knocked a chopper up the middle that scored Kyle Johnson and put two Bees in scoring position with nobody out thanks to both runners advancing on the throw to third. Chevy Clarke and Andrew Ray both struck out looking, but after Jonathan Walsh walked, Wendell Soto cleared the bases with a double to pick up three RBIs and give the Bees a 4-0 lead.
Cameron Bedrosian fired three scoreless innings, while striking out four to pick up his first professional save. The Bees have now allowed a total of 18 runs in their 11 wins.
The Bees will send Ryan Crowley to the mound on Thursday night in hopes of picking up just their second series victory of the season. The Cougars are expected to counter with Taylor Scott. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m. at Community Field.
