Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

Bowling Green, KY - The Bowling Green Hot Rods, Class A Affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, recognize the promotion of 2011 Hot Rod Derek Dietrich to the Miami Marlins, becoming the second Hot Rods alum to reach the Major Leagues. The Cleveland, OH, native debuted with the Marlins Wednesday afternoon at PETCO Park in San Diego and singled off Padres pitcher Jason Marquis in his first Major League at bat.

In 2011, Dietrich hit .277 with 22 home runs and 81 runs batted in for the Hot Rods, anchoring a lineup that led the Hot Rods to their first-ever postseason berth. The 22 home runs still stand as a single-season Hot Rods franchise record.

Dietrich combined to hit .279 at Advanced-A Charlotte and Double-A Montgomery in 2012 with 14 home runs and 75 runs batted in. Tampa Bay traded Dietrich on December 4, 2012 to Miami in exchange for Yunel Escobar. Playing at Double-A Jacksonville in 2013, the former Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket was hitting .282 with four home runs and 16 runs batted in before earning the promotion to the Marlins.

Bowling Green Ballpark and the Hot Rods begin a six-game homestand on Wednesday night with the first of a three-game set with the West Michigan Whitecaps (Tigers) at 7:05 PM. The homestand includes a Thrifty Thursday (All-Hit WUHU 107, Beaver 96.7) / College Night (The Pointe at Western), Team Picture Giveaway on Friday (Coca-Cola), Postgame Fireworks on Saturday (WBKO, Candlewood Suites), and Feed Your Face Day on Sunday.
