Bowling Green, KY - Blake Snell hurled a career-high six innings and ten strikeouts, but the Bowling Green Hot Rods (20-11) fell to the West Michigan Whitecaps (14-16) 2-0 on Wednesday night at Bowling Green Ballpark. Jeff Holm struck a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the first inning that provided the only offense in the game, the first of a three-game set with the Tigers Class A Affiliate. Marty Gantt had two hits and Joey Rickard doubled in the loss for the Hot Rods.

Snell allowed the two-run home run to Holm on the first pitch of the at bat in the top of the first inning after a Devon Travis single. After the longball, Snell then retired 16 consecutive Whitecaps hitters to finish the strong outing. Despite being tagged for his third loss of the season, Snell notched his first quality start in a Hot Rods uniform. The ten strikeouts, six of which came in succession in innings two and three, and six frames are both career highs for the Shoreline, WA, native.

The Hot Rods offense scattered their seven hits over nine innings at the plate on Wednesday night. Whitecap starter Jordan John began the shutout with 6.2 innings of work to earn his first professional win. Bowling Green's offense managed just three at bats with runners in scoring position. The last of which occurred in the bottom of the ninth inning when Marty Gantt grounded back to the mound with runners at second and third to end the game.

The series continues Thursday with the middle game of the three-game set at 7:05 PM at Bowling Green Ballpark. The Hot Rods will give the pearl to RHP Dylan Floro (2-0, 1.35), while the Whitecaps will counter with RHP Endrys Briceno (0-2, 6.26).
