Stockton Thunder News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - Forward Mark Arcobello, who played in 33 games with the Stockton Thunder in 2010-11, made his National Hockey League debut with the Edmonton Oilers tonight against the Dallas Stars and registered two blocked shots in 16:10 of ice time at Rexall Place in Edmonton.
Arcobello, 24, became the ninth player to make his NHL debut after suiting up for the Thunder and accomplished the feat before a national TV audience on TSN.
The 5-foot-9 and 165 pound forward has 39 points in 43 American Hockey League games this season, ranking third on the Oklahoma City Barons in scoring. In 142 career AHL games, he has collected 104 points and 42 goals along with a +23 rating.
Arcobello earned 20 points in 33 games with the Thunder in 2010-11 and was named Most Valuable Player of the 2011 ECHL All-Star Classic in Bakersfield as a representative of Stockton. He had a hat trick and became the eighth player in All-Star Classic history to score at least three goals in one game.
He also skated in 131 career games through four seasons (2006-10) in college with Yale University, notching 116 points (49g-67a) and posting 203 penalty minutes.
Stockton is serving as the AA minor league affiliate for Oilers prospects and is in its seventh season as an affiliate of the Oilers. Since the Thunder and Oilers began their partnership in 2006-07, the Thunder has advanced to the Kelly Cup Playoffs six consecutive years and eight other former Thunder players - right wing Troy Bodie, goaltender Devan Dubnyk, center Milan Kytnar, right wing Colin McDonald, center Ryan O'Marra, center Tim Sestito, left wing Liam Reddox and defenseman Bryan Young - have gone on to play in the NHL.
A two time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence," the Thunder led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons and drew over 200,000 fans for the seventh consecutive season in 2011-12. Season Tickets, Group Tickets and Mini-Plans for 2012-13 are on sale now.
