Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - Round Rock Express Head Groundskeeper Garrett Reddehase was named 2012 Pacific Coast League Sports Turf Manager of the Year, the league office announced Friday.

The award was voted on by the league's 16 field managers and umpires, and is judged based upon criteria such as pregame setup for batting practice and infield practice, preparation and maintenance of all areas of the playing surface for the game, and professionalism of the grounds crew.

Reddehasse, a Temple, Texas, native, is in his third season with the Express and was the recipient of the PCL's 2011 Presidential Commendation for groundskeeping. He also heads up Ryan Sanders Sports Turf Services, which works to build and renovate sports fields throughout Texas. Reddehase also was named Texas League Turf Manager of the Year in 2009 while with the Corpus Christi Hooks.

"The playing surface at The Dell Diamond has a very well-established reputation for its Major League-grade quality and for always being in the best shape possible," Express General Manager George King said. "Garrett and his crew are the reason for that reputation. They spend tireless hours over and beyond the facility's regular operation, ensuring the field stays ready for any and all of the various events we host. From professional baseball to concerts and civic events, our grounds crew is always at the top of their game and ready to deliver what demands those events put on them."

Reddehase is assisted by Philip Grefrath. Bill Mitchell serves as field crew leader with interns Keith Kaase and Eric Peckham, and gameday crew members Chris Driskill, Shannon Nichols and Thomas Gabel.

In addition to 72 regular season Express games and concerts, The Dell Diamond hosts numerous high school, junior college and NCAA baseball games, including the University Interscholastic League state tournament. Reddehase and his crew also are taxed by one of the league's most strenuous climatological environments with numerous days of 100-plus temperatures and month-long stretches without rain.

Reddehase earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology Sports Management from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, where he was a pitcher for the Islanders baseball team. He is a member of the Sport Turf Managers Association, the Coastal Conservation Association and the TTA Texas Turfgrass Association. Reddehase is married to the former Jenny Arnold of Calallen, Texas.

Round Rock continues the season's final home series Friday night, hosting the Nashville Sounds for a 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at The Dell Diamond. The Express have won four straight, 10 of their last 13 games and are a league-best 20-9 since July 26.
