Reno wins 4-3

July 20, 2012 - Pacific Coast League (PCL) Tucson Padres

The Tucson Padres were down by two runs with two outs and nobody on base in the bottom of the ninth inning Thursday when three straight hitters reached base, but the rally fell short in Reno's 4-3 victory. After Jeremy Hermida and Sawyer Carroll flied out, Rocky Gale hit a double to left-center field. Beamer Weems then reached on a throwing error by third baseman Rusty Ryal and Gale scored on the play. Daniel Robertson's base hit kept the Padres hopes alive but Andy Parrino hit a line drive up the middle that was snagged by shortstop Taylor Harbin to end the game.

Reno's Charles Brewer pitched 6.2 innings and allowed two runs, striking out six in the victory. Sam Demel pitched 1.1 scoreless innings out of Reno's bullpen. The Aces scored once in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Harbin and twice more in the fifth inning on RBI hits by Josh Bell and Jake Elmore.

Tucson's Matt Clark homered for the second straight game and now has a team-leading 17 home runs. The Padres bullpen has thrown seven consecutive scoreless appearances, with Jason Ray, Neil Wagner and Josh Spence continuing the streak tonight.

Next Game: Friday, 7:05 pm in Sacramento - Tucson RHP Matt Palmer (5-6, 6.72) vs. Sacramento RHP Brad Peacock (7-6, 6.75). Game coverage begins at 6:50 pm on Tejano 1600 AM.
