Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
OMAHA, Neb. - Down five as they entered the bottom of the third, the Omaha Storm Chasers could have thrown in the towel but instead, the resilient Chasers battled back and eventually took Wednesday's contest against the New Orleans Zephyrs by a final of 8-5. Rehabbing Kansas City Royal Lorenzo Cain went 1-for-4 in his first game with Omaha but his lone hit was a two-run home run in the fourth inning.
Jake Odorizzi was victimized by poor defense in his three innings on the hill, giving up five runs but only two were earned. Odorizzi walked two and struck out one while giving up two solo shots. Reliever Blaine Hardy (2-1) was credited with the win after hurling three scoreless innings while Jeremy Jeffress and Brandon Sisk combined to blank the Zephyrs over the final three innings to round out the game. Sisk's scoreless inning of relief netted him his seventh save of the season and extended his scoreless innings streak to 12 consecutive innings.
The Zephyrs (41-39) opened the scoring in the first inning with a solo home run and tacked on four runs in the third to take a 5-0 lead. The Storm Chasers (50-30) cut into the lead in the bottom of the third when Johnny Giavotella singled and the next batter, Wil Myers, homered to bring the home team within three runs.
Omaha broke out for four runs in the fourth as a Max Ramirez double scored David Lough who singled and stole second earlier in the inning. Cody Clark then singled in Ramirez and advanced to second on a throwing error by New Orleans' Bryan Petersen. Cain then homered to left to put the Chasers ahead for good at 6-5.
The Storm Chasers added another run in the fifth on a Ramirez sacrifice fly that brought Clint Robinson home. Omaha's final run of the contest came on a throwing error by the Zephyrs' pitcher, Chris Hatcher, who threw wildly to first on a Giavotella single that scored Derrick Robinson who had singled and stole second earlier in the frame to put the Chasers up, 8-5.
