
Hazelbaker Named Eastern League Player of the Week

Portland, Maine- Portland Sea Dogs' outfielder Jeremy Hazelbaker has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the week of August 22nd through August 28th.
The 24-year old played in seven games for the Sea Dogs last week and hit .444 (12-for-27) with three runs scored, one double, three home runs, four stolen bases, seven RBI and a .815 slugging percentage. Hazelbaker, a native of Selma, Indiana, had three multiple hit games last week and is currently riding a five game hit streak. His week was highlighted by a 4-for-5 performance against the Reading Phillies on Thursday, August 25th in which he hit two home runs, scored two runs, plated five runners, and tallied 10 total bases helping the Sea Dogs snap a seven game losing streak. Hazelbaker tied for first among all Eastern League players in total bases (22) last week. He also finished ranked among the weekly leaders in stolen bases (4-2nd), home runs (3-tied 2nd), hits (12-3rd), OPS (1.298-4th), RBI (7-tied 4th), batting average (.444-5th), slugging percentage (.815-6th), extra-base hits (4-tied 6th) and on-base percentage (.483-9th).
Hazelbaker, who was called up from Single-A Salem on May 21st, has come on strong during the month of August, recording a .349 (29-for-83) batting average, with 15 runs scored, five doubles, and five home runs. The 6'3" 190 lb speedster is also 14-for-15 in stolen base attempts this month. In 83 games with the Sea Dogs this season he hitting .268 (88-for-328) with 11 home runs and 39 RBI. He has swiped 34 bases with the Sea Dogs this season becoming the first Red Sox affiliated Sea Dog to hit the 30 stolen base mark. Combined with his time in Salem, he has swiped 43 bases in 115 games this season.
Hazelbaker was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 4th round (138th overall) of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of Ball State University and joins former Sea Dogs Stephen Fife and Chih-Hsien Chiang as the only Sea Dogs' players who have been selected for the award this season.
The Portland Sea Dogs return to Hadlock Field for the final four games of the season starting on Friday, September 2nd with a 7:00 PM contest against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays).
