Harrisburg Senators News Release

Harrisburg, PA - Harrisburg Senators' RH Shairon Martis has been named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for games August 22 through August 28. He is the fourth Senators pitcher to win the award, joining Brad Peacock, Tanner Roark, and Erik Arnesen.

In his only start of the week, Martis pitched a complete game no-hitter against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Friday night. It was the first no-hitter in the Eastern League this season, and the third in Senators history. Martis struck out nine batters in the first game of the doubleheader between the Senators and Fisher Cats. The only base runner he allowed was a leadoff walk in the third inning, which was eliminated on a double play by the next batter.

Overall, Martis is 8-5 in 22 starts this season and is third in the Eastern League with a 2.81 ERA. He has had quality starts of 6.0 innings or more in four of his last five starts. The Willemstad, Curacao native was acquired by the Nationals in a 2006 deadline trade with the San Francisco Giants for Mike Stanton. The Giants signed Martis in 2004 as an amateur free agent.
