Chiang Blasts Two Home Runs and Collects Five RBI

Portland, Maine- The Portland Sea Dogs exploded for eight runs in the eighth inning to rally from a 5-2 deficit to defeat the New Britain Rock Cats 10-6 Friday night at Hadlock Field before a crowd of 5,829 fans. Ryan Dent playing in his first game for the Sea Dogs since April 30th collected the game winning hit and Chih-Hsien Chiang smashed two home runs to highlight the win.

Down 5-2 in the eight, the Sea Dogs rally started when Will Middlebrooks was hit by a pitch with one out and Tim Federowicz and Oscar Tejeda both drew walks to load the bases. Jon Hee singled off the pitcher to score Middlebrooks. Mitch Dening tied the game at five when he doubled to score two runs.

Dent, who has been out since April 30th with a hamstring injury, singled home Hee and Dening to break the tie giving the Sea Dogs a 7-5 lead.

Chiang added a three run homer, his second of the game and team leading 16th of the year, to cap off the monster inning. Chiang took a 2-0 pitch from New Britain Closer Tyler Robertson and drove it over all three levels of signage in center field. It was the second multi home run game of the season for Chiang, who now leads the eastern League with 67 RBI.

Eammon Portice (3-4) picked-up the win pitching a perfect eighth inning. Deolis Guerra (5-7) suffers the loss surrendering four earned runs on one hit in two thirds of an inning.

Portland starter Brock Huntzinger got off to a great start striking out the side in the first inning and recording a 1-2-3 second inning. After retiring the first seven batters, Deibinson Romero broke the streak when he stroked a solo home run.

Huntzinger surrendered back-to-back doubles to Chris Parmelee and Evan Bigley in the fourth as the Rock Cats took a 2-0 lead.

Alex Hassan earned a lead-off walk in the fourth and Chiang blasted a home run to right off New Britain starter Brett Jacobson to tie the game at two.

New Britain sent nine men to the plate in the fifth, chasing Huntzinger from the game, and breaking the 2-2 tie. Romero singled and Chris Herrmann launched his fourth home run of the season to give New Britain a 4-2 lead. Huntzinger proceeded to walk the bases loaded and was lifted for reliever Cesar Cabral. Cabral walked Mike Hollimon forcing in a run extending the Rock Cats lead to 5-2, where the score would remain until the eighth inning heroics by Portland.

The team clubs are back in action Saturday night at 6:00 PM at Hadlock Field. The Sea Dogs will send right-handed pitcher Chris Balcom-Miller (1-4, 5.50) to the mound. Righty Deinys Suarez (1-3, 4.19) will get the call for New Britain. Approximately 800 tickets remain for the game.
