Zoilo Almonte Promoted to Trenton

(Trenton, NJ) - The Trenton Thunder, Double A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, have received OF Zoilo Almonte from Advanced A Tampa. In a corresponding move, OF Cody Johnson has been transferred to Advanced A Tampa. The moves leave the Thunder roster at its maximum of 24 active players.
Almonte, a 22 year-old native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, will debut with the Thunder on Friday night at Waterfront Park against the Reading Phillies. In 70 games with the Florida State League's Tampa Yankees this season, the switch hitter Almonte hit .293 with 12 homeruns and 54 runs batted in. Almonte leaves the T-Yanks with a team lead in both homeruns and runs batted in.
The Thunder will continue their four-game set with the Reading Phillies Friday night at 7:05 PM from Waterfront Park. Getting the pearl for the Thunder in game two is LHP Steve Garrison (2-6, 6.98). Reading will counter with RHP Tyler Cloyd (3-1, 3.48). The SBLI Pre-Game show with Jay Burnham and Hank Fuerst begins at 6:45 PM. Tune-in to the game on 91.3 WTSR and trentonthunder.com.
