Senators hit two homers but fall to Akron 4-3

The Senators had their nine-game home winning streak snapped on Saturday night in front of 6,083 fans with a 4-3 loss to the Akron Aeros. Top Indians prospect LH Drew Pomeranz started for Akron and went 4.2 innings and allowed just two hits and a run, but not the win as he was removed just one out shy of finishing five innings.

The teams traded home runs in the third as Karexon Sanchez homered for Akron then Archie Gilbert homered for the Sens.

Akron scored three in the fifth off of Sens starter and the losing pitcher Tanner Roark. With one out Akron had three straight hits to plate the three runs, with the last run being unearned. Bill Rhinehart hit his 20th home run on the season with Derek Norris on board to draw the Sens to within 4-3 in the sixth inning.

Harrisburg had a chance in the eighth inning with two on and two out but Cory Burns struck out Bryce Harper to end the threat. Burns pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to earn his 26th save on the year.

Tyler Moore had two hits in the loss for the Sens. Jimmy Barthmaier and Pat McCoy were outstanding in relief combining to pitch the final four innings and allowing just two hits while striking out seven batters.

The Sens fall to 54-37 on the season while Akron improves to 48-45. Game three of the series is Saturday night with RH Erik Davis on the hill for the Sens against RH Joe Gardner for Akron.
