Altoona Curve News Release

ERIE, Pa. - Kyle McPherson pitched six solid innings for the Altoona Curve as he allowed just one run and the Curve scored in three straight innings to top the Erie SeaWolves by the score of 3-1 on Friday at Jerry Uht Park. With the win, the Curve snap a six-game losing streak.

The game started extremely well for the Curve as McPherson struck out the first five batters he faced before Altoona got on the board first in the top of the third inning. In the third, Greg Picart singled and stole second before a single from Brock Holt moved him to third. With one down, Josh Rodriguez shot a single back up the middle and the Curve led it 1-0.

Much like the game on Thursday, when the Curve scored, the SeaWolves would answer, and that remained true as Erie scored on a sacrifice fly in the third to tie the game at one in the bottom half of the third.

In the fourth, Matt Curry and Kris Watts singled before a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly from Greg Picart gave the Curve a 2-1 lead which they would hold through the bottom of the inning for the first time in the series in their fourth opportunity.

In the fifth, the Curve extended their lead as SeaWolves starter Jacob Turner allowed a walk to Holt and Rodriguez reached on an error before another walk loaded the bases. With the bases loaded and one down, Curry hit the ball well to right, which was caught for a sacrifice fly, scoring the third run of the day for Altoona.

Turner (3-4), despite speculation he could be in the conversation of a promotion to the Majors went only five innings, allowing three runs, two earned on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

After allowing the one run in the third, McPherson (3-3) ended his day with three scoreless innings. He was lifted after the sixth as he allowed only one run on four hits with six strikeouts and no walks. In relief, Tim Alderson came on in the seventh and worked a scoreless inning before giving way to Michael Dubee in the eighth.

Dubee worked a clean eighth inning and he gave way to Noah Krol in the ninth who worked a perfect inning for his 13th save of the season. The save is Krol's first since he earned one against the SeaWolves on the ninth of June.

The Curve (38-53) and the SeaWolves (44-48) will square up for the third game of their series on Saturday. For the Curve, RHP Aaron Pribanic (5-8, 4.37) will make the start and he will be opposed by RHP Mark Sorensen (7-7, 6.49). Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. at Jerry Uht Park in Erie, Pa. with pregame coverage on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network will begin at 6:35 p.m.
