
Chiang Named June Player of the Month

Portland, ME The Eastern League is pleased to announce that Portland Sea Dogs outfielder Chih-Hsien Chiang has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Month for the month of June. Chih-Hsien hit .320 (31-for-97) with eight doubles, three triples, seven homers, 27 RBI, 21 runs scored, 10 walks and a .680 slugging percentage in 27 games during the month. The 23-year old had at least one hit in each of the first 10 games he played in during the month and in 21 of 27 games in June. He also reached base in 24 games during the month. The 6'2", 170 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in home runs (7), RBI (27), slugging percentage (.680), OPS (1.071) and total bases (66) during the month of June. He also finished ranked among the monthly leaders in extra-base hits (18-tied 1st), triples (3-tied 2nd), runs scored (21-3rd) and doubles (8-tied 9th) and was named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of May 30th-June 5th.
Chiang, who is a native of Taitung, Taiwan, has appeared in 68 games for the Sea Dogs this season and is batting .309 with 26 doubles, four triples, 14 home runs, 58 RBI and 49 runs scored this season. He currently leads the league in slugging percentage (.618), OPS (.981) and extra-base hits (44) and is also ranked among the league leaders in RBI (2nd), doubles (tied 2nd), total bases (152-4th), runs scored (7th), home runs (tied 7th) and batting average (10th).
Chih-Hsien, who will be a member of the Eastern Division roster for the Northeast Delta Dental Eastern League All-Star Game in New Hampshire next week, was signed by the Boston Red Sox as a non-drafted free agent on October 20, 2005. He will be part of the World Team at the MLB Futures Game in Arizona this Sunday.
Binghamton Mets outfielder Raul Reyes also received strong consideration for the award after batting .376 (35-for-93) with seven doubles, four home runs, 12 RBI, 11 runs scored and two stolen bases in 26 games during the month.
