Mavericks' Robby Nolan Named CHL's Most Outstanding Goaltender

March 25, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL) Missouri Mavericks

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks, in conjunction with the Central Hockey League (CHL), announced Friday Mavericks' goaltender Robby Nolan has been named the CHL's 2010-11 Most Outstanding Goaltender (Scott Brower Award). The award is ‘presented annually to the Central Hockey League's most outstanding goaltender, in memory of Scott Brower, former Memphis goaltender and Corpus Christi employee.' The award is determined through balloting of CHL head coaches, communications departments and selected media members in each market.

Nolan, 25 (12/10/85), appeared on 39 of the 60 ballots returned marking the largest percentage of any of the CHL's year-end awards. He was followed by Dayton's Jeff Jakaitis who had 13 votes.

"What an incredible honor to be recognized not only by his peers (in the best of the best poll), but by the coaches and CHL representatives as the very best," said Mavericks' Head Coach Scott Hillman. "Robby is so humble, but I am the first to admit he is a huge piece of this team. We would not be contending for first place in the final weekend of the season without his stellar play between the pipes."

The Sherwood Park, Alberta native has a 26-13-5 record this season and he ranks in the top five of nearly every major goaltending category in the CHL. The 5-foot-10, 190-pound goaltender is currently ranked first in the CHL with a 2.07 goals-against average, and his seven shutouts are also tops in the league. In fact, Nolan's seven shutouts this season are the most by a goaltender since Bossier-Shreveport's John DeCaro had 11 shutouts during the 2007-08 season. He has a .928 save percentage ranking third in that department and his 26 wins on the season also rank third.

Nolan is in his second year as a pro and is also a finalist for the CHL's Most Valuable Player award which will be announced early next week. He played his first season in the IHL with the Flint Generals. Prior to turning pro, he spent four years at Michigan Tech University.
