
P-Bruins Defeat Pirates 5-4 in Overtime

Portland, ME - The Providence Bruins defeated the Portland Pirates 5-4 Saturday evening at the Cumberland County Civic Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Levi Nelson, Jordan Knackstedt, Jamie Arniel and two goals from Joe Colborne. The P-Bruins are back at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday for MetLife Auto & Home Ear Warmer Night at 7:05 p.m.against the Abbotsford Heat.
The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the 3:01 mark of the opening period. Antoine Roussel stole the puck from behind the net and worked it to Knackstedt who was in the right faceoff circle. He fed Nelson in front of the net, who tallied his second goal of the season. Providence made it 2-0 at the 6:48 mark. Steven Kampfer sent the puck up the ice and the got it to Nelson along the left boards. He sent the puck to the crease, where it was tipped into the net by Knackstedt for his fourth goal of the season. The P-Bruins took a 3-0 advantage at the 7:17 mark. Andrew Bodnarchuk fired the puck up the ice to Colborne. He skated into the left faceoff circle and blasted the puck into the net top shelf, for his second goal of the season. Portland pulled within two goals at the 15:33 mark. Paul Byron netted his second goal of the season, while Dennis McCauley and Mark Parrish recorded the assists. Portland made it 3-2 at the 16:43 mark, while on the power play. T.J. Brennan scored his second goal of the season, with Colin Stuart and Marc-Andre Gragnani getting the assists. The P-Bruins led 3-2 going into the first intermission.
The Pirates tied the game at three at the 4:15 mark of the second period, while on the power play. Byron tallied his third goal of the season and second goal of the game, with Parrish and Dennis Persson picking up the assists. Portland took its first lead of the game at the 17:35 mark. Persson netted his second goal of the season, while McCauley and Jacob Legace had the assists. Providence tied the game at two at the 19:23 mark. Matt Bartkowski sent the puck up the boards to Jeremy Reich. He sent it into the neutral zone creating a 2-on-1 for the P-Bruins. Colborne kept the puck himself and fired it top shelf into the net for his second goal of the game and third goal of the season. The game went into the second intermission tied at four.
After a scoreless third period, the game went into overtime. At the 1:25 mark Nolan Schaefer brushed aside the puck, where it was picked up by Bartkowski. He fed Arniel, who scored from the right faceoff circle, his fifth goal of the season. The P-Bruins went onto the 5-4 victory.
Schaefer stopped 36 of 40 shots for the P-Bruins, while David Leggiomade 26 saves and Alex Petizian made four saves for the Pirates. The P-Bruins were 0-for-2 on the power play and 3-for-5 on the penalty kill.
