Hamel Scores Twice in Homecoming

Denis Hamel scored twice in his first game back in Binghamton playing against his former team but the Adirondack Phantoms dropped a 7-3 decision to the Binghamton Senators Saturday night to conclude their two game weekend road-trip.

Hamel is the all-time leading scorer in Binghamton Senators history and has eight season of 20 or more goals. In his first two games since signing a PTO with the Phantoms he has scored three goals. A loud ovation was given for the very popular Hamel when he scored his first goal and then again when he was announced over the in-house speaker system. Hamel played six seasons for Binghamton since 2003 and had an AHL leading 54 goals with the Senators in 2005-06.

Ben Holmstrom scored the other goal for the Phantoms on a play in whcih everyone in the building thought Jon Kalinski had fired it home. But as Kalinski swung and the puck went in it turned out that the puck had never made it to Kalinski's stick. Holmstrom had intercepted the puck just as Kalinski was swinging and he poked it home from his second goal of the year.

Brian Stewart went the distance in the loss for the Phantoms in his third start of the year. The Phantoms outshot the Senators 40-36 on the night.

Ryan Keller led the way for the Sens with a pair of goals. Corey Locke ad one goal and three assists to earn #1 star of the game honors.

The Senators were clinging to a 2-1 lead late in the 2nd period but a quick three goal burst in a little over two minutes proved decisive for the home team. Rookie Mike Hoffman finished that scoring flurry for Binghamton with his first pro goal to stretch the lead to 5-1.

It was the most goals allowed in a game this season by Adirondack who will have a few days off coming up before a three game homestand this weekend against Toronto, Norfolk and Abbotsford.

Thursday, November 11th all veterans and their families can get tickets for only $5. The Friday, November 12th game is Faith and Family Night with the Phantoms and a large crowd is expected. The Saturday, November 13th game will feature Phantoms Mini-Sticks for the first 1,000 kids (age 14 and younger) courtesy of Hometown Chevrolet and also the 2nd Annual 9/11 Memorial Guns and Hoses game with local public safety representatives taking on the NYPD hockey team at 3pm.
