TONIGHT: The Barons look to add to their 5-game winning streak as they host the Houston Aeros (Minnesota Wild). It's the fourth of 10 meetings between these clubs. OKC is 1-1-1-0 against Houston, with the win coming in the last meeting Oct. 17 at Houston. Last night, the Barons began a season-high 8-game homestand with a 6-1 win over Texas. The Barons don't play their next road game until the day after Thanksgiving (Nov. 26) and will spend 24 consecutive full days in Oklahoma City. OKC continues to share the lead in the West Division with San Antonio.
CHASING THE PENGUINS: The Barons' 5-game winning streak is tied with Hamilton for the second-longest active string in the league, trailing only Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The Penguins have gone 9-0-0-0 to start the season. Overall, OKC's 5 straight wins tie for fourth-longest behind Wilkes-Barre Scranton and concluded streaks by Peoria (7) and San Antonio (6).
PENALTY KILL NO. 1: OKC's penalty killing blanked Texas in 7 tries last night, putting the Barons atop the AHL in overall percentage at 93.7. The Barons have allowed 4 power play goals in 63 times short. Since allowing 2 Houston power play goals on opening night Oct. 9, OKC has not allowed more than 1 power play goal in a game since, killing 54 of 56 opponents' power plays (96.4%) in the past 12 games.
JACQUES DEBUTS: Left winger J.F. Jacques played in the first game of his conditioning assignment last night, registering 1 shot while being a +1 with 2 penalty minutes. Jacques had not played in a game since Feb. 10 with Edmonton. A back injury sidelined him for the remainder of last season and required surgery in March.
LEADERS: Martin Gerber leads AHL goalies in wins (7) and minutes (673), while second in saves (290). Gerber, who has won 5 straight starts, is tied for 12th in the AHL in goals-against average at 2.32. Shawn Belle leads all AHL defensemen in points with 12 after a 2-assist game last night. Belle also tops the AHL in assists among defenseman with 11. Rookie Jeff Petry is tied for seventh in the league among defensemen with 9 points (2G, 7A).
OMARK, REDDOX, MORAN ADD POINTS: Linus Omark, who scored the eventual game-winner last night in the first period, has points in 9 of the last 10 games, totaling all 12 of his points in that span. Liam Reddox has goals in 6 of his last 9 (6 goals) and points in 8 of the past 10 games (9 points) by adding an assist last night. Brad Moran has scored a goal in each of the last 3 games.
ALUMNI REPORT: Goaltender Bryan Pitton, reassigned by Edmonton to Stockton of the ECHL on Thursday, recorded a shutout in his first game for the Thunder last night. Pitton, whose older brother Jason plays for Stockton and scored a goal last night, made 19 saves as the Thunder beat Bakersfield 7-0. It was Pitton's second career shutout. Pitton was reassigned when Jeff Deslauriers cleared waivers and was assigned to OKC by the Oilers this past week. Deslauriers has not played in a game this season.
