Albany Devils News Release
ALBANY, NY - In a matter of a minute and 43 seconds the Rochester Americans erased a deficit and netted the game-winner, lifting them to a 6-4 victory against the Albany Devils Saturday night at the Times Union Center. The Amerks, who are now 6-1-1-0 on the road, improve to 7-5-1-0. The Devils move to 6-4-0-0 despite netting two shorthanded goals and a power-play tally.
"It was an emotional game, I think, for both teams." said head coach Rick Kowalsky. "There were some fights, some nastiness, but I think everyone settled in. In the third, we got away from what put us in position to win the game."
In what seemed like a flash, Scott Timmins tied the game at 4-4 with 4:49 remaining and then Ryan Del Monte completed his Gorde Howe hat trick with the winner with 3:16 left. The Amerks followed with an empty net goal to produce the final score.
Albany gained a 4-3 advantage with 1:06 remaining in the second when Vladimir Zharkov found the back of the net while shorthanded and on a delayed penalty. It was the team's second shorty of the night and the season; Brad Mills made it 3-3 off a deflection with a man down with 17:42 remaining in the second.
Albany, which erased three Rochester leads in the game, trailed early as Michael Duco scored only 20 seconds into the contest. Matt Anderson, who was the hero for Albany the night before, responded less than seven minutes later.
Rochester's Bill Thomas sandwiched his fifth and sixth goals of the season around Mattias Tedenby'ssecond of the year. Thomas scored with 7:23 left in the first and 18:47 in the second. Tedenby found the net on the power play with 5:01 remaining in the first.
Tedenby finished with a goal and an assist and was joined by fellow Swede Alexander Urbomwith a multi-point effort. Urbom, who had a pair of helpers and was a plus-2, is on a four-game scoring streak, accruing five assists. He is also a plus-4 during that span.
Between the pipes, Mike McKenna made 29 saves on 34 shots in his second start in as many nights. At the other end, Jacob Markstrom earned the win stopping 27 of 31.
The Devils were 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Amerks went 2-for-6.
Albany completes its three-in-three at home against Providence on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 4 p.m.
