Hawks Receive PTBNL in Haren Deal

August 9, 2010 - Midwest League (MWL1)
South Bend Silver Hawks News Release

In conjunction with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the South Bend Silver Hawks have announced that left-handed pitcher Tyler Skaggs has joined the Silver Hawks active roster after being acquired as the player to be named later in the Diamondbacks trade of Dan Haren to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Skaggs was 8-4 with a 3.61 ERA in 19 appearances (14 starts) for the Cedar Rapids Kernels while in the Angels organization. At just 19 years old, he is 10 days younger than Scottie Allen to become the youngest pitcher on the Silver Hawks staff.

Prior to the 2010 season, Skaggs was rated by Baseball America as the eighth best prospect in the Angels system. He was a supplemental first round pick from Santa Monica High in California.

The South Bend roster currently stands at 24 active players plus two on the disabled list. The Midwest League allows for 25 active players.

The Silver Hawks continue a seven game home stand tonight with game three against the Lake County Captains (Cleveland Indians) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:00 PM Eastern Time on a Pepsi and U93 Dollar Monday.
