Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The Pacific Coast League announced their 2010 All-Star roster today and the Colorado Springs Sky Sox are very well represented on the team. In all, three Sky Sox players were named to the team with outfielder Matt Miller and relief pitcher Matt Reynolds being elected and infielder Brad Eldred being selected as a bench player. The 2010 Triple-A All-Star Game will be played on Wednesday, July 14 in Allentown, PA at the home of the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs (Triple-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies).
With three All-Stars, the Sky Sox are tied for the most All-Stars from one team (Las Vegas, Oklahoma City & Albuquerque) and the team having two starting All-Stars is also tied for the most from one squad (Albuquerque).
For Miller, 27, this is his second consecutive PCL All-Star nod as he represented the Sky Sox last year in Portland. He is currently ranked among league leaders in several categories and continues to show that he is one of the most consistent hitters in Triple-A. He is currently sixth in the league in hitting with a .330 average (93-for-282) and ranks second in both hits (93) and runs scored (56).
First baseman Eldred, 29, is playing his first season in the PCL and is setting the league on fire. He is the current league leader in home runs with 20 and ranks in the top five of several other categories including RBI (2nd, 60), slugging percentage (4th, .586) and total bases (5th, 143). He is also leading the league with the best home run per at-bat ratio as he is hitting a homer every 12.20 times to the plate.
Reynolds, the lone Sky Sox pitcher on the All-Star squad, is making his Triple-A debut this season and has been solid all year. The lefty reliever is tied for first in the league in appearances with 35 and has the third best strikeout to innings pitched ratio at 10.49 (47 strikeouts in 40.1 innings). Reynolds, 25, also started the season by tossing 18.2 scoreless innings. He is just the tenth Sky Sox pitcher to be named an All-Star in the clubs 23-year history and the first since Ryan Speier was selected in 2007.
