Wimberly Extends On-Base Streak To 31 In Victory

June 4, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Sacramento River Cats News Release

Sacramento lead-off man Corey Wimberly singled Thursday night to extend his consecutive on-base streak to 31 games in a 10-2 River Cats victory over the Tacoma Rainiers at Raley Field. Wimberly hit a line-drive, RBI single to left field as part of a six-run second inning that gave Sacramento a 6-2 lead. Later in the inning he stole third base for his Pacific Coast League-high 22nd steal of the season and scored on a wild throw to third. Left field Matt Watson had two sliding catches and also hit his third home run in seven games since returning to the River Cats as a free agent. Watson was the River Cats' team MVP in 2005, when he also hit an All-Star Game home run at Raley Field. Starter Clay Mortensen (7-2, 4.30) allowed two runs -- both in the first inning -- over 7.0 innings, striking out four and walking five. He is now tied for the league league with seven victories.
