Frederick, MD - Frederick Keys first baseman Joe Mahoney has been named Orioles Minor League Player of the Month for May. It is the second consecutive month a Key has earned the honor as outfielder Ronnie Welty claimed the prize in April.

Mahoney, the Orioles sixth round pick in the 2007 draft, batted .314 while hitting a home run and driving home 12 runs. The Keys clean-up hitter led the club to an 18-12 record, second best in the Carolina League. On the season Mahoney is hitting .302 with six home runs and 32 RBI's. His batting average has been above the .300 mark for every day since May 10th.

A product of Troy, NY, Mahoney had an outstanding collegiate career at Richmond that saw him become the first Atlantic-10 product selected in the 2007 draft. Standing at 6-foot-7, Mahoney is the tallest player on the Keys club. He set a career-high with 29 stolen bases in Class-A Delmarva last year but has featured more power in 2010. Mahoney is just two home runs shy of his total from last year.

Keys outfielder Ronnie Welty won the award for player of the month in the Orioles farm system in April. Welty batted .279 with six home runs and 21 RBI's in April. He is currently tied with Mahoney for the team lead in RBI's with 32.
