Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - Josh Banks was an error away from tossing Round Rock's first nine-inning complete game this season but settled for the win as the Express defeated the Iowa Cubs 6-4 in Friday night's series finale at The Dell Diamond. The Express (25-30) earned a series split against the Cubs (28-26) with the win. A season-best crowd of 12,638 was on hand for the game, the third-largest attendance in the 11-year history of The Dell Diamond.

Banks allowed a one-out single in the ninth before Brad Snyder fouled out for the second out of the frame. Jim Adduci then grounded to Express second baseman Marcos Cabral for what appeared to be the game's final out. However, Cabral misplayed the grounder, allowing Adduci to reach safely and prolonging the game. Wellington Castillo followed with a two-run double, and Matt Camp pulled the Cubs to within two runs with an RBI single.

Roy Corcoran entered the game and was greeted with Bryan LaHair's pinch-hit single. Corcoran, though, got Sam Fuld to fly out, ending the threat and the game.

Banks (6-4) turned in the longest start of the season for the Express, missing out on his first complete game since tossing one for the San Diego Padres in 2008. He allowed four runs, only one of which was earned, on eight hits and a walk with one strikeout in 8.2 innings. Corcoran notched his second save of the season, both of which have come in the last two games.

Matt Kata's three-run double in the bottom of the first ignited the Express offense, and Round Rock never trailed. Iowa got a run in the fourth when Micah Hoffpauir doubled with two outs and Snyder followed with an RBI single. But, the Express answered with a pair of runs on two hits in the bottom of the fourth. It again was Kata doing the damage, lining a two-run single to left-center. Both Kata run-scoring hits came with two outs.

Brian Bogusevic added a solo homer to leadoff the seventh. It was his sixth round-tripper of the season, five of which have been solo shots.

Kata finished 3-for-4 with five RBI, snapping out of a 2-for-37 slump that had plagued him since ending his 13-game hitting streak two weeks ago. His five RBI were the most in a game by an Express player this season; eight players had turned in four-RBI performance, including two players twice.

Jason Bourgeois (1-for-4) extended his hitting streak to 13 games with an infield single in the sixth. That matches Kata's streak as the longest by an Express player this season; Bourgeois has hit safely in 23 of the last 24 games. Jason Castro (2-for-3, walk) has reached safely in 25 consecutive games, the second-longest on-base streak this season in the Pacific Coast League. Bogusevic was 2-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored.

Hoffpauir and Matt Camp both had two-hit games for the Cubs.

Round Rock continues its fourth home stand of the season Saturday, opening a four-game series against the Nashville Sounds (Milwaukee Brewers). The Express took three of four in the teams' first series this season at The Dell Diamond last month. It will be dueling southpaws on the mound as Polin Trinidad (3-2, 4.18 ERA) gets the nod for the Express, and Chase Wright (3-2, 3.93 ERA) is scheduled to toe the slab for the Sounds.
