Jeff Mathis To Rehab With Bees

SALT LAKE CITY (June 4, 2010) - The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announced today that catcher Jeff Mathis will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Salt Lake in the team's road game this afternoon at Portland.

Mathis, 27, was placed on the Disabled List on April 20 with a broken right wrist. In 10 games with the Angels this season, he hit .324 with three doubles, one home run, three RBI and two stolen bases. Mathis appeared in 84 games for the Halos in 2009, hitting .211 with eight doubles, five home runs and 28 RBI.

In three seasons with Salt Lake (2005-07), Mathis appeared in 277 games, hitting .273 with 73 doubles, 31 home runs, 144 RBI and 10 stolen bases. The Marianna, Fla. native was originally selected by the Angels in the first round of the 2001 draft.

The Salt Lake Bees return home tomorrow night to take on the Colorado Springs Sky Sox at 7:05 p.m. at Spring Mobile Ballpark. A fireworks show will begin following the conclusion of the game.
