Sea Dogs Suffer First Loss to Rock Cats

Portland, Maine - The New Britain Rock Cats (8-29) defeated the Portland Sea Dogs (21-16) 4-3 in ten innings on Thursday night at Hadlock Field. It was the first win for the Rock Cats in 11 games this season against Portland.

Yancarlos Ortiz singled up the middle scoring Yangervis Salarte in the top of the tenth inning to give the Rock Cats a 4-3 lead. Former Sea Dog Chris Province pitched a perfect tenth inning to preserve the win and earn his third save of the season.

Matt Williams (1-1) picks-up the win for New Britain tossing two scoreless innings allowing two hits.

Portland took the early lead after scoring two runs in the third inning on RBI singles from Che-Hsuan Lin and Luis Exposito.

New Britain rallied back scoring three times in the sixth inning. Ben Revere singled to centerfield scoring Steve Singleton to give New Britain the 3-2 lead.

Anthony Rizzo scored on a Yamaico Navarro ground out in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game at three. Rizzo has reached base safely in all seven of his Double-A starts.

Portland starter Ryne Miller tossed five strong innings surrendering one run on three hits. He walked four and struck out four.

Bryce Cox (0-2) suffered the loss for Portland allowing one run on three hits in 2.1 innings of work.

The Sea Dogs and Rock Cats will conclude the series Thursday afternoon at 12:00 noon at Hadlock Field. Portland righty Kyle Weiland (0-2) takes the mound for the Sea Dogs. He will be opposed by New Britain righty Kyle Gibson (1-0). Red Sox outfielders Jacoby Ellsbury and Mike Cameron are expected to rehab with the Sea Dogs on Thursday.
