Skyforce Acquires Kirk Penney

Sioux Falls, S.D. (March 24, 2010) - The Sioux Falls Skyforce announced today the acquisition of former NBA player Kirk Penney. He is expected to make his debut at home on Friday night against the Springfield Armor. To make room for him on the roster the team waived forward Justin Bowen. The active roster now stands at 10 players.

After a brief stint with the Miami HEAT in 2003-04, Penney earned an NBA call-up to the Los Angeles Clippers during the 2004-05 season while playing for the Asheville Altitude. The sixth overall pick in the 2004 NBDL Draft averaged 12.0 points and 3.2 rebounds while ranking third in the league in free throw percentage (86.9). The New Zealand native earned All-NBDL Honorable Mention honors and helped lead his squad to the 2005 NBDL Championship.

The 6-5, 220-pound guard was named All-American Honorable Mention (AP) as a senior and was an All-Big Ten First Team selection his junior and senior seasons at the University of Wisconsin. Penney is the eighth all-time leading scorer in school history with 1,454 points, second all-time in 3-point field goals made (217) and eleventh in games played (127).

The Skyforce's next game is tonight at home against the Maine Red Claws. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CT at the Sioux Falls Arena. Discounts and benefits are available for groups of 10 or more.
